Where do Earthquakes mostly happen??
Where do Earthquakes most often occur?
Earth quakes happen when two plates are colliding and sliding past each other. This occurs in particular around the edge of the Pacific Plate, for example in New Zealand, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Japan and the Americas, and in Indonesia, where the Indo-Australian Plate collides with the Eurasian Plates.
New Zealand
The reason why Earthquakes happen so often in New Zealand is because New Zealand is a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire which is still active, because of this there are about 20,000 earthquakes, most are minor they are recorded each year. Around about 200 of the earthquakes are big enough to be felt.
Vanuatu
Vanuatu is within a seismic Circum-Pacific Belt. The seismic activity and volcanic activity are the upcoming activity that comes into motion of the Pacific-plate and Indo–Australian plates. At Vanuatu Junction, the Indo-Australian plate is falling under the Pacific plate. The speed of the plates aren’t normal, and this increased speed is what is causing the earthquakes.
These are just some of the places and why earthquakes happen within them.
